The past few days have been a mix of moving and staying put, and trying to decide when to take photos and when to leave the camera in the van. The road has its own pace, and we’re still getting used to it.
The weather has shifted. Overcast skies have taken the edge off the sun and kept the temperature down during the day. We’ve stayed in a mix of caravan parks and bush camps. Last night we pulled in along the Hay River after a wrong turn that we didn’t bother correcting. It was quiet apart from the occasional splash from the water. We set up, put some music on, and worked through a cask of goon while the cloud cover kept most of the stars out of view.
Now we’re camped just outside Margaret River. This stop needs a bit more planning than most, with vineyards and sections of coastline we want to see before heading on to Perth. Soon it’ll be city streets instead of bush tracks, although the same dust-covered boots will likely be coming with us. For now, we’re still out here.
